After college Matt L, Tim, Sam, Mike, Kirk and I went to film our first series of our webisode, after giving the request form and room permission to Nick (screengrab is in below post). We filmed from about 4.20 until 5.45, so had a hour and a half roughly which was fine, although we did expand our time from 5.15 for an extra half an hour as we felt things weren't progressing fast enough and we wouldn't be finished in time. Matt L wanted to film the title sequence, which was fine but did take up 30 or so minutes of filming time. Nonetheless it was needed for the first episode also, but it meant we had less time than we anticipated.
The filming process started off not too well, we had to arrange all the actors and get them in costume which also took up time, in hindsight we could have been a bit quicker about this, but it worked well as while Matt L was setting up for the title sequence we had time to arrange the room and tables etc. When we started filming, things took up a much more relaxed pace and we were able to film all of the first episode which was a great result.
My personal role today was to just assist with filming, but Kirk got a little confused with the storyboard and the shot list so I helped mainly on this, therefore I took a bit more of a directorial role rather than just assisting, but I only wanted to ensure we filmed everything we needed to. I helped Tim with Camera while Sam would do the sound with the microphone simultaneously. Tim agreed that this was a big help, I also helped with the next shots, angles etc to help us move a long a bit quicker. I think I helped a lot today and I'm glad I came along to filming in the end as I did help quite a lot in my opinion. Mike and Matt L did not do too much after the title sequence although the title sequence was Matt L's main job for the day. Mike did help arrange the cast but I felt there were too many people in the room as some came to simply watch etc and this created tension and stress in the group.
Things gradually got better while filming, as people finally got everything sorted. I was very pleased with all the actors willingness and dedication, and the fact they had learnt the lines very well. We also had a teacher willing to help, which was a HUGE help in terms of our teacher role as we wasn't able to find anyone so Kirk was going to act as the teacher. However, Tim spoke to Steve and Steve was able to help out and after all was very convincing and very good in terms of lines etc.
In terms of our schedule in my opinion we have filmed the first episode before Wednesday, so we are on schedule. The only downside was that we did not film any other episodes so have no preview material etc for the audiences, but given the time we had I am pleased we did really well. There were some complaints there was not enough footage but I think we shot more than enough and made sure the shots weren't all static etc. I am looking forward to helping out tomorrow and seeing how the footage turns out once edited.
