Production meeting 5th January

Today, as a group, we held a production meeting to discuss how we would take the show project further. Yesterday, I was introduced to the web series so by now was quite familiar with the characteristics etc and what made them popular. It was now time for myself, aswell as us as a class to choose an idea, but most importantly job roles and what people would do for the project.

First, as a class we held discussions about who would be chairman for the meetings about the show project. After some voting and nominations there seemed to be a few people who would suit the role well, however my personal thought was Kirk as he is good with managing people, although some of the class thought about James as chairman. Kirk decided that since himself and James had had managerial roles before, it would be good to give someone else a chance, so he stepped down as did James, which I thought was fair. The two other candidates were Tim and Alex, of which all the class agreed would be good with arranging the meetings and discussions. I thought personally that these two were a great choice and would be good chairman.

So, as Tim and Alex as chairman, the class set about coming up with an idea. We all agreed as a class that comedy needed to be in it, although after watching the Prom Queen web series yesterday night for homework and seeing the success of a non based humour series, I am not entirely sure whether we necessarily needed humour, but it would be a good step forward. After ideas on post it notes were stuck up on the board, votes were cast and the 3 main ideas were as follows. Zombie apocalypse, which was one of the most comedy related ideas, a Detention based idea with 3/4 main characters, and new characters introduced each episode.

However, my personal favourite was the idea of a student being harassed by a secret agent. This seemed the most plausible as we would be filming in college, other than this the detention idea was my second choice. Therefore we had votes on each idea and in the end we compromised as a class to put the secret agent idea into the detention idea, and have the student being harassed as one student in the detention room as a main character. My personal thought was that he should be the main character, but others in the class did not think this and thought it wouldn't go well.

Therefore, my main idea was to have the Detention idea with the boy being harassed by a secret agent as a main character. The class then thought about some more characters, and came up with Keith, a caffeine obsessed student, Valorie, a punk female student, a silent student and a student named Chad. It was not the characters we needed to worry about at the moment though, it was the jobs each of us would have to do.

After this arose, we set about getting jobs together for people, and after a discussion we decided the jobs are as follows. I spoke to Tim at the end and thought I may be better in marketing as opposed to camera work, which I think would be a better role.
