January 12th Progress

As a team today we got quite a lot completed, but the main accomplishment was the unsigned music bands, as Sam and Alie posted questions for unsigned bands to get in contact with us if they would like their music to be featured in our web series. Within 20 minutes or so we had 5 replies over facebook and twitter and over a couple of hours we had 20 or so replies, which is a real help for music during the series. Sam's next job is to listen to all the sample music and decide which one fits the web series best.

Nick then told us we need a production manager, to send out letters for requests to cameras, room use, batteries etc and to send formal emails etc for music, complete risk assesments and so on. I did not nominate myself for the role but the group decided I would be best for this role as I take the most notes and am good at organisation - I did not mind doing this as well as the advertising and marketing. Tim is also going to help me with the risk assessments etc.

We then looked at an Eastenders spin off called E20 by the BBC. We had to watch how the production and show generally tries to attract a much younger target audience than Eastenders does, as E20 is targeting the same age group as what we are for our web series - 15 - 19 year olds. E20 were very keen to get teenagers involved in the show, and to write for it too. The smaller show is easier to do, and with web 2.0 making advances in the media industry TV does no longer have to be limited to certain times and cab ne watched anytime on BBC iplayer etc.

From the clip of the E20 documentary, it is easy to see how it has aimed at a much younger target audience than Eastenders. It features remixed music, with rapid cutting, it is very action packed and has new younger actors - all relating the younger target audience. it also features the title and the branded logo too - clearly showing links again to advertising.

There are 12 episodes of E20 with 13 different writers, all aged 17 - 22, this embraces the aspect of diversity in terms of the media industry. Popular E4 drama Skins also features teh idea of teenagers writing the series or certain episodes. The Web is now a native media for teenagers, as we have grown up with the internet which again shows how the aspect of technology has changed over time.

The show as you can see fro mteh above picture, also features direct links to the facebook and twitter pages and therefore direct links to advertising and marketing on their main website - something we hope to accomplish on our website also.
